Developer backtracks on Wii slagging

Games developer Chris Hecker has retracted statements he made last week at the Game Developer Conference when he called Nintendo’s Wii “a piece of s**t”.

Hecker is working on the computer game Spore, an EA Games title being designed by Will Wright, who also brought us The Sims.

On the Kotaku gaming blog, Hecker said he was trying to be thought provoking and entertaining and went over the top. He also said that he thinks the Nintendo needs to be “applauded for trying to interface on the controller front, the user interface front” and on “making a console that you don’t need to mortgage your house to afford”.
