Opinion: Trying Out the HTC Sensation XL
We loved the original HTC Sensation, so I jumped at the chance to get my hands on its bigger (badder) brother, the Sensation XL. This monster phone has a 4.7-inch WVGA display and is intended to be a device for major media fiends.

Opinion: Did iOS 5 Delete Your Apps, Music, and Data? Here's Help
Apple's iOS 5 is supposed to take the hassle out of updates and backups by handling it all automatically through iCloud. But to get iOS 5, you've still got to go through iTunes, and if something goes wrong, the update may erase your apps and data in the process.

Opinion: Test Driving the HTC Titan, A Mega Mango Phone
HTC has this funny tradition of releasing gigantic phones running Microsoft's mobile OS (the HTC Touch HD and the HD7 come to mind, both of which had 4.3-inch displays). Bigger is not necessarily better when it comes to phone displays, so I'm always skeptical of phones with displays larger than 4.3 inches.

Opinion: Hands-On With the Motorola Atrix 2
AT&T sneakily announced a small batch of new phones this week, one of which is the sequel to the well-received Motorola Atrix--the Atrix 2. Luckily, Motorola was present at CTIA, so I managed to spend some time with their newest super-phone.

Opinion: Hands On: Samsung Stratosphere 4G for Verizon
Last night at CTIA’s MobileFocus show, I got to play with the recently-announced Samsung Stratosphere 4G for Verizon. The Stratosphere is Verizon’s first LTE slide-out keyboard phone. I’m usually a fan of keyboard phones, but the Stratosphere left me underwhelmed.

Opinion: Samsung Offers Galaxy SII for $2 to Lucky Customers
Just a few days before the iPhone 4S launches, Samsung is sticking a thumb in Apple's eye and showing its rival that the iPhone isn't the only handset that can create big lines. The Korea-based electronics maker recently opened a temporary retail outlet in Sydney, Australia, offering the Galaxy SII smartphone for just $2. Every day until Friday, the first 10 people to purchase the popular Android-based phone at Samsung's "Pop Up Shop" will get the deal.

The iPhone 4S is up for a great start: after one million preorders in 24 hours, reviewers gave it the thumbs up ahead of general availability on Friday. The improved camera, faster processor and Siri voice-enabled personal assistant in iOS 5 are the most talked-about iPhone 4S features among reviewers.

At CTIA 2011 in San Diego, Huawei outlined its plans to take on the US mobile market. The company showed off a few of its latest phones to hit our shores, including the eye-catching Huawei Ascend II for Cricket. This prepaid phone is currently available for $180 with no contract.

Opinion: Scary Super-Realistic Face Masks Are Scary
Sure, we all think we look stunning when we sneak a peak in the mirror, but does the world really need more than one of our faces floating around? Twins my be able to get away with it naturally, but the rest of us would have to come up with some 3-D photo-realistic printing device that would create life-like masks. Oh wait, someone’s already done that leg work. Score.

Opinion: New Secure Android Tool Divides Data for Work or Play
If you use your Android smartphone for both business and pleasure, a product introduced today at a trade show in Germany appears to be worth following. A version of Android called BizzTrust creates two partitions in Android--one for personal use and another super-secure one for business.

Opinion: Samsung Transfix: Prepaid Android Messaging Phone
Even though Samsung canceled its Unpacked event with Google this week, it has still announced quite a few phones here at the CTIA 2011 show in San Diego. The Transfix might not be as exciting as the Nexus Galaxy, the first Android Ice Cream Sandwich phone, but it is positive news for prepaid customers.

Opinion: Brighten Unwanted Shadows in Your Photos
Despite what your camera might have told you, there's no such thing as the "perfect exposure." Unless you're taking a picture of a completely uniform scene (like a wall that's been painted a single color), every combination of shutter speed and aperture is invariably going to favor one part of the photo over another. So even if you learn the basics of exposure using an online camera simulator and go on to master the hidden potential of your camera's Program mode, odds are good that everything won't be properly exposed.

Opinion: Researchers Turn iPhone Into 350x Microscope on the Cheap
Take a close look at the images above. They look like fairly typical (and fairly awesome) photos taken with a microscope, except...they were taken with an iPhone. The highly detailed snaps are magnified an impressive 350 times thanks to a recently created microscopic lens, and it was all done for around $50.

Opinion: Sprint Now Making All the Right Moves
Sprint has had a painful run over the past few years, with poor financial performance and high subscriber attrition. But things appear to be looking up for the country's (distant) third-place wireless carrier.

Opinion: Windows Phone 7, Day 27: Your Mileage May Vary
s I start to wind down the 30 Days With Windows Phone 7 series it occurs to me that there is no single Windows Phone 7 experience. The wireless provider I rely on, the smartphone manufacturer I choose, and the specific model of Windows Phone I use could significantly impact the outcome.
