MacBook owners have launched a website dedicated to gathering reports explaining seemingly random shutdowns on the new consumer portable Macs.

Users have complained that after a period of normal use, MacBooks seem to develop a inexplicable fault in which they will shut down.

The symptoms differ: some users report that their laptops suddenly begin to shut down if the MagSafe power adapter is accidentally dislodged from the Mac.

Other users report that the battery suddenly seems to act as if it is carrying no charge, or that the battery indicator in the menu bar suddenly claims it needs hundreds of hours to recharge.

The website explains that Apple claims a recent software update should rectify the problem, but the site claims this is not wholly effective in all cases.
