Volumouse is a clever and useful free program that makes your mouse control your PC's sound.

This article appears in the October 06 issue of PC Advisor, which is available now in all good newsagents.

With it you can use the mouse wheel, alone or in combination with keys, to turn up or turn down the volume, mute and unmute. I’ve configured it to let me control the system’s volume by spinning the mouse wheel when my pointer is hovering anywhere over the buttons on the Taskbar.

Muting takes just one wheel turn with the pointer on any program’s menu bar. And the tool can change a window's transparency. If I wanted to read a help menu while in an application, I can alter the help window and see right through it. You can get a free copy at here or on the PC Advisor cover disc.
