Reader tips: organise your music

Plus: keep your PC safe in a thunderstorm, and change your PC username.

This article appears in the May 07 issue of PC Advisor, available now in all good newsagents.

Tree of CDs

Alan Jacques wrote in to suggest an alternative CD organiser to Advanced File Organizer which I recommended in the March issue. Alan's choice is cdTree (CDTree, pictured below). It isn't as powerful a program, but it may well be sufficient for many people.

Surge advice

Rev PR Murray writes: "You are correct to advise that it is best to unplug all electrical equipment in a thunderstorm, but that should include telephone connections. I needed to replace both a modem card and a motherboard after lightning struck the telephone line. I don't agree that surge protectors are a waste of money. They will offer some protection if a storm arrives when you are not at home and unable to unplug the equipment."

Name correction

Timothy Skirving wrote in with another way to change your Windows User account name. Use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard, Old Computer option to back up your documents and settings. Create the new account and log out of the old one and into the new one. Then use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard, New Computer option to restore the documents and settings.
