Mac rumour machine heats up

Is Apple's next big thing going to be revealed next week? The company is expected to give a special presentation at its Cupertino headquarters on 12 September, and speculation over new products continues to reverberate online.

Pundits have suggested the debut of new iPod nanos, new 23in iMacs (with Core 2 Duo chips), an updated Mac mini and even the long-anticipated movie download services through iTunes.

AppleInsider thinks these announcements may be eclipsed by the introduction of a new range of wireless (AirPort) products designed to handle video streaming around the home.

One report this morning even claims to name the movies Apple will make available through iTunes service, with films from Disney and its companies leading the charge. That report is potentially based on no more than logical speculation, given that Apple chief executive Steve Jobs is Disney's biggest individual shareholder.

The 12 September presentation takes place on the opening day of Europe's biggest Mac event, Apple Expo.
