Why is Microsoft 37 times better than Apple?

Global brand survey reckons so

According to the latest global brand survey, Microsoft is at number two – while Google is far off at 24, and Apple sits way back in 39th place.

The BusinessWeek/Interbrand Best Global Brands survey suggests a huge gap between these sometimes bitter rivals, but on what grounds is this brand image based? McDonalds, for God's sake, is at number 9. Marlboro at 12. Is a general negative public perception better than Apple's cutting-edge coolness or Google's nice 'n' friendly factor?

If so, maybe Hezbollah should be a top brand, too...

Levi's rests at number 100. Are these brands really more noticeable: Nivea (99), ING (85), Hennessy (83), Danone (67), Accenture (49), Novartis (43)?
