News: Microsoft posts record quarter but says tablets have cannibalized netbooks
Despite weak consumer demand for PCs, Microsoft posted a record first quarter revenue of $17.37 billion for the period that ended Sept. 30. This beat analysts expected sales of $17.2 billion. Revenue increased 7% percent over the year-ago period. Microsoft credited the increase to enterprise demand for Office, server and development tools.

News: Microsoft Preps Big Win Phone 7 Push Heading into Holidays
Brace yourself for the upcoming Windows Phone 7 onslaught. In the coming months Microsoft will make a big holiday push that will extend into early 2012 in an attempt to win over converts to its new mobile operating system. Andrew Lees, president of Microsoft's Windows Phone Division, has been busy recently spreading the gospel of Phone 7 and dishing on Microsoft's mobile plans, according to a number of reports.

News: Windows Server 8: Highlights of the upcoming server OS
On September 8th, shortly before the public unveiling of Windows 8 client, I headed over to Redmond for a two-day meeting where Microsoft talked about what's in store for Windows Server 8. According to Microsoft's Bill Laing, Corporate Vice President for the Server and Cloud Division, the server team implemented over 300 new features, all of which "target businesses that are moving to the cloud and manage servers and devices, whether they're physical or virtual, on-premise or off-premise."
