Windows 8 packaging gets leaked

Microsoft Windows 8 retail boxes shown online

Microsoft's Windows 8 retail packaging has been leaked online ahead of its release.

The software giant's next generation operating system isn't due until 26 October but the packaging has been leaked. The Verge has published the image showing two boxes for Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro. See also Windows 8 release date and features UK.

Both boxes sport the updated Windows 8 logo with some somewhat funky colours too. The white box is for Windows 8 while the black box is for Windows 8 Pro. The new logo emphasises the tile based interface which Microsoft is no longer calling 'Metro', likely due to a German company called Metro AG.

Windows 8 will launch on 26 October for PCs, laptops and tablets. Microsoft said it will launch its Surface tablet at the same time and it has revealed hardware such as the Wedge keyboard and mouse designed for Windows 8.
