Optus strengthens ties with NextDC

Optus has inked a deal with datacentre provider, NextDC, in a bid to offer customers a full suite of enterprise Cloud, datacentre and IP network services from any NextDC datacentre across the country.

Optus has completed the high-speed fibre connectivity deployment to NextDC sites in Canberra, Brisbane and Melbourne, and will connect NextDC's new Perth-based datacentre, as well as its 17,650m² Sydney datacentre at Macquarie Park in the coming months.

NextDC sites will be connected with the Optus Evolve Network, an enterprise-grade IP network, to deliver bandwidth for data intensive applications such as Cloud-based computing and video conferencing.

Optus Business managing director, John Paitaridis, said organisations show an increased willingness to adopt Cloud products and services, particularly Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) within the next three to five years -- a key reason why the company is positioning itself in the market.

"Optus' relationship with NextDC significantly expands the availability of Optus Evolve and PowerON Cloud services across our national datacentre assets. Combined with Optus' existing datacentres, this now gives Optus Business one of the most significant datacentre footprints in Australia," Paitaridis said in a statement.

NextDC CEO, Craig Scroggie, said the expanded Optus relationship bodes well for future development and ongoing market commitment.

"We are delighted to be working closely with Optus as part of its commitment to expanding services for its customers. Optus' investment in communications infrastructure for the NextDC national network is a huge commitment and we expect to see great rewards working with Optus over the coming years."

Scroggie said Optus Business customers will also benefit from NextDC's secure rack containment solution, including the Data Centre as a Service (DCaaS) platform ONEDC.
