Apple to appeal against court-ordered Samsung adverts

Required to admit that Samsung didn't copy iPad design patents

Apple watchers believe the company is sure to appeal against a UK judge's order that it should take out adverts admitting that Samsung didn't copy its iPad design patents

Following Wednesday's announcement that Apple has been ordered to take out advertisements in the UK acknowledging that Samsung did not copy its iPad design patents, industry experts have predicted that Apple will appeal against the decision.

Jonny Evans reports that Apple's legal team have pledged to appeal the original ruling, made on 9 July, and that Judge Birss granted Apple permission to take its case to the court of appeal, although Apple has declined to make a public statement following the more recent order.

As we wrote yesterday, Judge Colin Birss ordered Apple to buy advertisements in major UK newspapers acknowledging his 9 July ruling that Samsung did not infringe on Apple's iPad design patents.

Bizarrely, part of Judge Birss' reasoning was that the iPad is "cool" but Samsung tablets, while "very, very similar" when viewed from the front, "are not as cool".
