Apple ranked second in Asia's top brands of 2012

Apple has moved up four spaces, overtaking Sony but still behind Samsung

Apple has risen to second place in a survey by research firm Nielsen and Campaign Asia-Pacific of the top brand in Asia, beaten only by Samsung.

On Thursday, Campaign Asia-Pacific published the results of its 2012 Asia's Top Brands report, revealing that Sony has been knocked off of the top spot into third place for the first time in four years.

Apple moved up from sixth place in last year's survey to second place in 2012, reports CNBC.

Jolene Otremba, editor of Campaign Asia-Pacific said that Samsung has reached the top spot through its "focus on high visibility marketing and advertising, as well as its commitment to developing brand presence in both new and mature markets."

The survey asked 4,800 respondents across 12 markets in Asia to share their thoughts about which brand they believe is the most trustworthy in 14 product and service categories.

Also in the top ten this year are Panasonic, Canon and LG. Luxury brands such as Burberry, Louis Vuitton and Prada have seen a significant boost since last year, indicating that Asian consumers could be earning more money.

This week, we reported that the Chinese government may be holding back Apple's expansion in the country that has 1.3 billion inhabitants.
