Key locations revealed in Steve Jobs tour

Are you inspired to go on a Steve Jobs tour of California

Fancy going on the Mac fan's ultimate holiday? Follow in the footsteps of Steve Jobs' and visit key locations in California.

The Guardian's Jonathan Margolis has set on a trail of Steve Jobs in California with the aim of being photographed with his iPad at various locations.

Margolis visits a number of sites within a small radius of Jobs childhood home near Palo Alto, California.

First up is Via Dolorosa was 2066 Crist Drive, Los Altos, the "modest bungalow where the Jobses came to live in 1967", it also features the famous garage in which Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak started Apple. Margolis knocked on the door and the lady who lives in the house revealed that a couple of hundred a week take photos. The lady was Marilyn Jobs, who married Paul Jobs, after Steve Jobs' mum died.

Next on the list was 2101 Waverley Street, Palo Alto, the current Jobs residence, described as "twee" and "relatively modest". An Apple Security man took a photo of Margolis at that location and explained that they log "100 to 150 tourists a day" at the location.

Other locations on Margolis's tour include the Whole Foods Market on Emerson Street where Jobs was spotted sitting in his car screaming his displeasure at the iMac not being "blue enough"; Xerox's Palo Alto Research Centre (Parc) at 3333 Coyote Hill Road; Jobs's favourite lunch restaurant, Jin Sho, on S California Avenue; Apple HQ on Infinite Loop in Cupertino; and the Byte Shop at 1063 West El Camino Real where the first Apple machine was sold (which turned out to be a sex shop).
