Video: US to ban all electronic devices while driving?

The National Transportation Safety board recommended on Tuesday that states outlaw the use of all electronic devices while driving, even hands free cell phone kits. Many states already have laws against using cell phones or texting while driving, but this recommendation goes beyond that, and covers personal as well as commercial vehicles. The NTSB can't enact laws, but it can issue recommendations, as it did with state seatbelt laws. The agency estimates that 3,000 people died from distraction related accidents in 2010. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the instance of texting while driving had increased by 50 percent over the past year, despite 34 states outlawing the activity. The proposal would make an exception for devices that assist drivers, like GPS and for the use of phones to report accidents or emergencies. Nick Barber, IDG News Service.
