Capita bags Vertex private sector operations

Outsourcer takes on Marks & Spencer and Scottish Power customer management operations

Capita has snapped up the private sector operations of call centre and customer management outsourcer Vertex for £40.5 million cash.

Vertex will transfer 1,400 of its UK based staff and 200 offshore support staff to Capita.

Vertex's private sector clients include major the retail, utilities and telecommunications organisations, including Marks & Spencer, The National Trust and Scottish Power.

The acquisition by Capita follows its July purchase of another major UK call centre services provider Ventura, Ventura, the third party customer services arm of management arm of retailer Next which handled 50 million customer contacts for other blue chip companies including Sky, Tesco Bank, Google, O2, Orange, British Gas and BMI.

In the UK Vertex will focus on public sector and financial services markets, while continuing to pursue outsourcing contracts in the USA, Canada, India and Australia, according to CEO Paul Sweeny.
