IT industry to get Digital Nation census

IT companies and projects will be mapped to support innovation.

A "comprehensive census" of the UK's IT industry is being launched this month to support business development and innovation.

Digital Nation, developed by the UK IT Association, will be officially launched at an event hosted by the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership on 26 September.

As well as being a census that will digitally map IT companies and new and ongoing projects, Digital Nation aims to help companies grow by assisting with research and development and finding new markets in the EU and further afield.

The census will also help to bring together companies with different areas of expertise and capability for business partnership opportunities, said the UK IT Association.

UKITA director Andrew Corbett said: "Digital Nation will allow companies not only to find contracts, but importantly allow IT sector projects to find interested companies in their area and nationwide."

Corbett said other local enterprise partnerships and interested bodies were invited to the free 26 September launch event, which is being held at the Warwick University Digital Lab from 11am to 2pm.

Almost 90 percent of business leaders across industry believe technology will fuel UK economic growth over the next decade.

Barclays Corporate questioned 664 business leaders for a general survey about the growth prospects of the UK, and 88 percent said technology was key to growth. This was ahead of professional services on 78 percent, hospitality and tourism (73 percent), and financial services (69 percent).
