MESH in administration: The 25-year history of MESH Computers

Timeline of MESH Computers, from startup to administration

As we reported earlier today, MESH Computers has gone into administration. Here's a potted timeline of the company's near 25 years selling custom PCs to British tech enthusiasts.

1987: MESH Computers Plc is founded by Max Sherafati.

August 2001: MESH owners Max Sherafati and Peter Ramiz become joint CEOs of the company; Mick Thornburn becomes MD. MESH moves into 40,000-square-foot offices.

29 April 2005: MESH Computers Plc is renamed as 'Mesh Computers Ltd' and becomes a subsidiary of Mesh Acquisitions ltd, owned by Sherafati and Ramiz, and an employee trust.

2006: After two decades of exclusively selling direct to individual customers, MESH Computers begins selling through other retail companies.

March 2007: Sherafati buys out Ramiz's shares, and takes a £4m loan from HBOS, with the bank taking a 20 percent share in the business.

July 2009: After concentrating on desktop PCs, MESH launches its own laptop line-up, called Edge.

2010: Sherafati buys out HBOS's shares, pays off all the loans and becomes the sole owner of MESH.

1 June 2011: MESH Computers goes into administration; the MESH brand and some other assets are subsequently sold on to UK components distributor PC Peripherals.
