MacSaga.com online store alert - potential fraud

Online retailer falsely claims to be backed by PCA

An online retailer called MacSaga is falsely claiming to be "owned and operated by IDG Communications" - the company behind PC Advisor and Macworld UK - leading us to view the online store as suspicious.

The site, which offers Mac products at a discount, claims to take payment by MoneyGram and FedEx express, and also sports a VeriSign Secured logo. However, an alert was raised when a Macworld UK reader phoned up asking if we were behind the store.

The reason - an 'About' page that states: 'This website is owned and operated by IDG Communications Limited of 101 Euston Road, London, NW1 2RA, United Kingdom, Reg. Co. No. 1197840, VAT No. GB-404696446 ('IDG UK'). IDG UK has notified as a data controller under the UK Data Protection Act 1998."

Well that's news to us. Please don't order anything from them. We're not sure if you'll ever see a product or your money again. We're in the process of complaining through the appropriate channels.
