HP IT workers scoop £45 million lottery

Euromillions prize goes to BT's HP crew

Sky News is reporting that a syndicate made up of IT workers working for Hewlett Packard won the £45.5 million Euromillions lottery draw last week.

The IT workers are based at a BT call centre in Liverpool. Each will around £5m.

It is understood that the winners are employed by either Hewlett Packard or Manpower to do IT work and computer support.

The other £45.5m winners are said to be a couple from South Wales.

The syndicate apparently only found out about the win at work this morning. Nobody from the team is thought to have known about the win until they arrived at work today and one of them checked the ticket, reports Sky News.

At 11am tomorrow (Tuesday November 10) the group of IT workers will appear at a media event in Thornton Hall Hotel and Spa in Wirral.

A BT worker told the Liverpool Echo: "You can only imagine what it was like when it dawned on them.

"I've heard they just went mad - screaming and shouting. It's been the talk of the building.

"No one can believe it. They are a very, very lucky bunch."

A member of staff at the call centre, who didn't wish to be named, said they are all members of management.

It's believed that all but one of the winners are from Merseyside.

Co-workers at the call centre put a toy horse's head, wearing sunglasses and a jacket in a window at reception showing a sign which reads 'Lotto Winner'.

Two Euromillions lottery tickets bought in the UK matched Friday's draw numbers, and would share the £91m jackpot.
