Yahoo PR chief quits after leak witch hunt

Blog claims Yahoo people 'bone tired'

Jill Nash, Yahoo's chief communications officer, has notified CEO Carol Bartz that she's leaving the company, according to a report by BoomTown editor Kara Swisher.

According to Swisher, it's likely that Nash chose to leave, rather than being fired. Nash joined Yahoo in 1997, after serving as head of corporate communications for Gap.

Swisher's report is more interesting for the behind-the-scenes picture it paints of a workplace worn out from years of struggling for so-so results, while Google continues to pull ahead:

"BoomTown would have to guess Nash is simply completely spent from her past two years at Yahoo, which have been very fraught from a public relations perspective, to say the least.

"Many Yahoos have told me, not for attribution and at all levels of the company, that they are bone-tired of the long-term struggle the company has been engaged in and want to move on, even in this weak economic climate."

BoomTown, where Swisher has frequenty posted inside stories on Yahoo, claims CEO Carol Bartz is now "offering cash rewards for employees who turn in other employees who leak to the press".
