ASUS has gone a little bit crazy this week at MWC, it's changed its flag ship product's name, launched the PadFone (a phone and tablet combo) and revealed a pen that you can make calls with!

The first peice of news to come out of the press conference was that the name 'Eee' is sadly no more. Chairman Jonney Shih revealed that Asus are now calling its tablet PCs Transformer Pads.

ASUS's announcements didnt stop there. Next came the launch of the innovative PadFone. The thinking behind the PadFone is pretty impressive, essentially what ASUS is trying to create here is two devices that work together in a 'pick up from where you left off' kind of way. The PadFone is two seperate devices that you can slot into one another to make one superdevice. The phone features a 4.3” smartphone featuring a Super AMOLEDqHD display the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual core processor and an ultra-sharp 8-megapixel digital camera with Fuji image processor all wrapped in an exquisite design that is optimized for Google’s Android 4.0 operating system.

When you slot the Phone in the tablet it transforms into a 10.1” tablet with 5 times the battery capacity. (See full specs on the next page). The PadFone also comes with the option of a crazy PadFone Stylus Headset which is a Bluetooth stylus pen that transforms into a headset for picking up calls easily. ASUS said the new device will be avaiable to buy worldwide in April this year.

The fun with ASUS didn't stop there. Three new Transformer Pads were also revealed to fit the "unique needs of mobile media consumers". These are the ASUS Transformer Pad Prime and upcoming ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity series and ASUS Transformer Pad 300 series.

Here's ASUS's official justification for releasing three different tablets: "The Transformer Pad Infinity Series is poised to be the go-to tablet for HD mobile entertainment as it features an impressive 1920x1200 Full HD Super IPS+ display and ASUS SonicMaster technology. The Transformer Pad 300 Series makes for an ideal mobile web surfing and gaming platform with its NVIDIA® Tegra® 3 quad-core processor and high quality 10.1” 1280x800 IPS display. Designed for early adopters, the Transformer Pad Prime is the world’s first NVIDIA® Tegra® 3 quad-core tablet and is also the first to run on the Android™ 4.0 ICS operating system. It features an ultra-slim profile of just 8.3mm, weighs in at just 586g and sports a metallic spun concentric circle finish. The Transformer Pad Prime also boasts a Super IPS+ screen rated at 600 nits for a better outdoor reading experience."

Finally, ASUS showed off a matching keyboard docking station designed for the transformer range. ASUS claim when used it transforms your ASUS tablet into an ultraportable computing device. Nifty eh?
