Microsoft Surface Pro launching on 9 February

UK might have to wait longer for Surface Pro release

Microsoft Surface Pro

Microsoft has announced its Surface Pro tablet will launch on 9 February.

The software giant's second tablet will launch with Windows 8 Pro on 9 February in the US and Canada. The Surface Pro will come in 64GB and 128GB models starting at $899. See also: Microsoft Surface Pro vs Apple iPad comparison review.

Microsoft said: "Work like never before on Surface Windows 8 Pro. Take the power and performance of a laptop and carry it around wherever you go. Perfect as your one device – in the office, on the road, or at home – it can run Windows 8 applications, as well as current Windows 7 desktop applications."

The bad news is that there's no word on when it will come to the UK or how much it will cost here. The Verge reports that "additional markets to follow in the coming weeks and months". It's frustrating news for anyone who held off buying the Surface RT.

The Surface Pro comes with an Intel Ivy Bridge processor, Full HD display and a stylus pen. As far as we're aware, the 128GB model will cost $999.

Microsoft also announced that the Surface RT will be available as a 64GB standalone version.
Currently priced at £559 it only comes in this storage capacity with a Touch Cover keyboard.

There will also be three limited edition Touch Covers with laser-etched designs consisting of 'year of the snake', 'skulls' and 'flowers'.

Microsoft Surface Pro price in the UK

If you convert the US price of $899 into sterling it comes out at around £570 but it's highly unlikely that this will be the UK price considering the 64GB Surface RT costs £559. A price of between £699 to £799 would be more likely.
