Three million iPad minis and iPad 4s sold over launch weekend
Apple has set a new launch weekend sales record with its iPad mini tablet.
The Californian company confirmed it sold 3 million iPads over the course of three days. The figure includes both the iPad mini and fourth generation iPad (iPad 4) and is double the amount sold of the iPad 3 back in March. See also: Google Nexus 10 vs Apple iPad 4 tablet comparison review.
Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, said: "We set a new launch weekend record and practically sold out of iPad minis. We're working hard to build more quickly to meet the incredible demand."
"Customers around the world love the new iPad mini and fourth generation iPad." he added.
It's the first time Apple has produced an alternative size of the iPad, and it seems to have worked. Cellular versions of the iPad mini and iPad 4 don't go on sale until later in the month. The iPad mini has taken on the likes of the Google Nexus 7 and Amazon Kindle Fire. See also: Apple loses tablet market share to Android
Although the figure combines the sales figures for the two different iPads, The Metro reports that the iPad mini far outsold the iPad 4 accounting for 2.3 million units.
