Google might ditch 8GB Nexus 7

iPad mini causes Google to rethink Nexus 7 line-up

Google Nexus 7 8GB coming soon

Google could be getting rid of its 8GB Nexus 7 in favour of a 16GB and 32GB line-up.

The Google Play Store is the only place to get the entry level Nexus 7 tablet and is stating that the device is ‘coming soon’. This was the message shown before the Android tablet went on sale, suggesting it’s on its way out.

The change of events fits in with the fact Google is rumoured and expected to announce a 32GB model of the Nexus 7 on 29 October This would replace the 16GB for the same price of £199.

It’s also possible, then, that the 16GB will replace the 8GB for £159. A move like this would make the Nexus 7 a more attractive option in comparison to Apple’s freshly announced iPad mini which starts at £269 for a 16GB model.

Google is also supposedly going to announce 3G model of the Nexus 7 and a new tablet in partnership with Samsung called the Nexus 10. This could also factor in the ditching of the 8GB Nexus 7.
