Amazon has announced that it will launch its Kindle Paperwhite eReader and Lending Library to the UK.

The Kindle Paperwhite is the latest addition to the Kindle family of eReaders and will launch on 25 October along with Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD tablets. The Paperwhite is the first Kindle with a built-in light and will be priced from £109.

Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon said: "This is the Kindle we have always wanted to build, it has 62% more pixels, 25% higher contrast, built-in front light, perfect for reading in bed and on the beach, even thinner, with 8 weeks of battery life. We know that readers in the UK love reading on Kindle and we think they are going to love Kindle Paperwhite."

Like Amazon's Kindle Touch,, the Paperwhite uses a touchscreen integrated into the display allowing it to be thinner. Amazon said the "front-lit display guides light underneath an anti-glare layer and down toward the display, away from the reader’s eyes".

As well as a Wi-Fi only model, customers can pay £169 for a Wi-Fi and 3G model with no extra charge for downloading content over 3G.

Also coming to the UK later this month is Amazon's Kindle Owners’ Lending Library. Amazon Prime subscribers can borrow eBooks for free as frequently as one per month from over 200,000 titles including all seven Harry Potter books. However, it doesn't mean you can lend books you own to your friends and family.

"Prime members will have exclusive access to a huge library of books to read on any Kindle device at no additional cost and with no due dates." added Bezos.
