Exclusive: HTC will launch another tablet in the UK

HTC confirms a follow up to the Flyer is in development

HTC will launch a follow up tablet to the Flyer in the UK.

The Taiwanese firm predominantly makes smartphones but a spokesperson for HTC told PC Advisor a tablet will 'definitely' arrive. It's not clear when this will happen but it will be the first tablet from HTC to launch in the UK since May last year.

HTC Flyer

Although there's no release date for this mystery tablet yet, we were told that the firm would wait until it had something unique to offer. HTC is developing the tablet and will make sure it has a unique selling point, the spokesperson said.

We're not going to try and speculate on the specifications but it's likely the tablet will run on Google's Android operating system, one would assume version 4.1 Jelly Bean.

HTC has launched other tablets, such as the Jetstream, but none have tipped up in Blighty.

With an already busy, arguably over populated, tablet market HTC will want its device to stand out. It attempted to do this with the Flyer which had a higher resolution screen than rival 7in tablets and a digital pen for writing on the screen.

The Flyer struggled to take off at first due mostly to its high price of around £600. It can be picked up now for about £200.

It's uncertain whether the tablet to succeed the Flyer will be high-end to rival the Apple iPad or more entry-level to compete with the likes of the Google Nexus 7.
