LG ditches tablets in favour of smartphones

Microsoft Surface and Apple iPad are enough to put LG off tablets

LG has decided to put tablet development on hold to focus on its smartphones.

The news coincides with Microsoft's announcement of its Surface RT and Surface Pro tablets. According to Bloomberg LG will focus on smaller device rather than take on the Apple iPad and Surface.

"We’ve decided to put all new tablet development on the back burner for the time being in order to focus on smartphones," said Ken Hong, a spokesman for LG.

"LG doesn’t see Surface competing with anything we’re focusing on at the moment,"

LG has only had a small foray into the tablet market with its Optimus Pad and Optimus Pad LTE. The Android-based devices struggled to compete with the competition from other Android tablets and the iPad.

The firm is looking towards its L-Style range of smartphones for success this year including the L3. LG also makes Windows Phone-based devices and is apparently still open to making devices with Microsoft's software.
