Amazon has released a free software update for its Kindle eReader.
Brings new font, parental controls and more
The firmware upgrade brings the device up to version 4.1.0 bringing a number of goodies. The update does not apply to the Kindle Keyboard or Kindle Touch models.
For starters the software brings a new 'crispier' font with a higher contrast for improved reading. It also adds parental controls to restrict access to the Experimental Web Browser, Archived Items, and the Kindle Store.
Amazon has added support for books with complex layouts and Kindle Format 8. Additional support comes in the form of children's books with Kindle Text Pop-Up and comic books with Kindle Panel View which lets you to read a comic book panel by panel.
Version 4.1.0 groups the dictionaries into a collection in Home and Archived Items called for better organization. Lastly it adds enhanced table and image viewing with panning and zooming on supported titles.
The software update can be downloaded and applied to the Kindle from Amazon's website.
