Sony Tablet S gets Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade

UK rollout is 'coming soon'

Sony has released an update for its Tablet S to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

The firm is in the process of rolling out the upgrade across the globe. The software is available in the US but we're still waiting for a release date for the UK. See also: Group test: what's the best tablet PC?

Sony told PC Advisor: "An update to Android 4.0 will be available soon for Sony Tablet in the UK. System software for Android 4.0 is developed and released independently for each country. For some countries, the software update has been released already and for other countries it will be released at a later date. We will let you know as soon as we have a more precise date for the UK."

Although the update isn't available in Blighty yet, there is a way of getting ICS for the tablet. However, this involves rooting the device and setting the region to US to trick the system.

When the upgrade does arrive it will bring a number of enhancements to the Tablet S. For starters users will be able to access notifications and the camera app from the lock screen. Other additions include grouping apps in folders, a panoramic camera mode, photo editing tools and saving web pages for offline viewing.

We'll be sure to let you know when the update is available in the UK but for now take a look at the video Sony has put together showing off ICS on the Tablet S.
