Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 to hit UK on August 4

Firm also reveals 8.9in version will be released later in the year

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, the latest incarnation of the firm's tablet PC, will hit the UK on August 4.

The successor to the Samsung Galaxy Tab features a 10.1in WXGA TFT LCD touchscreen and is powered by a 1GHz dual core application processor, with the latest NVIDIA Tegra chip. Running Google Android Honeycomb, version 3.1 of the operating system aimed specifically at tablet PCs and available in both Wi-Fi only or Wi-Fi and 3G versions, Samsung says the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 supports network speeds of up to 21Mbps and offers reduced data transfer times.

Furthermore, user will benefit from a 3Mp rear and 2Mp front camera, support for Flash and HD video playback and a Gyroscope and Accelerometer.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, which measures 257x173x9mm and weighs 565g, also comes pre-loaded with the firm's Readers Hub that offers instant access to more than 2.2 million books, 2,000 newspapers and 2,300 magazines, as well as Music Hub which has a catalogue of 13 million songs and Social Hub, which integrates email, instant messaging, mobile contacts, calendar and social network connections into a single interface.

"The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is the latest example of Samsung's ongoing innovation in this market and commitment to the Android platform. Our Galaxy family all feature a premium design, excellent screens and are packed with compelling entertainment features. We plan to deliver exciting new user experiences and lead the tablet market in the months and years to come," said Simon Stanford, managing director of Samsung's mobile divison in the UK and Ireland.

Samsung has yet to reveal pricing for the device, which comes in either 16GB, 32GB or 64GB capacities and is available in both black and white .

Samsung also revealed its Galaxy Tab 8.9 will be made available later this year in the UK.
