BlackBerry PlayBook available from Currys and PC World

Web users can register their interest in tablet PC

Brits wanting to get their hands on the BlackBerry PlayBook can now register their interest with Currys and PC World.

The Playbook is the first tablet PC from BlackBerry makers RIM. It has 7in WSVGA capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1024x600 pixels and runs off a 1GHz dual-core processor.

The PlayBook will also benefit from 1GB of RAM, plus up to 64GB of internal memory. As with most tablets, the Playbook will have a GPS accelerometer, a six-axis motion sensor and a digital compass. It runs the BlackBerry Tablet operating system and is capable of 1080p high-definition video capture thanks to its 5Mp main camera. It also has a secondary 3Mp camera and an HDMI out port.

The tablet PC was initially made available to pre-order in the US last month and begins shipping in America today. In the US, the device costs $499 (£306) for the 16GB Wi-Fi version, $599 (£367) for the 32GB model and $699 (£429) for the 64GB Wi-Fi version. However UK pricing and a shipping date has not yet been released.

Dixons Retail said it will be one of the first UK retailers to stock the device, which will also be available through its stores.
