Online orders for the iPad 2 officially opened at 1am this morning although some complained that they visited the Apple Store site before this time only to find that shipping times had already been pushed back.
Others said the process had been very slow and it had taken some time to register their order. One reported that though the estimated shipping time was two to three weeks, the estimated delivery date he had received was 27 April - more than a month away.
If you've been left disappointed, though, you can still get yourself to an Apple Store or reseller for the 5pm launch, though you'll more than likely have to queue and there is no guarantee that there will be enough stock to meet demand.
If you want to buy a Wi-Fi only version of the iPad 2 it'll cost you £399 inc VAT for the 16GB model, £479 inc VAT for the 32GB model, £559 inc VAT for the 64GB model.
The iPad 2 with Wi-Fi + 3G will be available for a suggested retail price of £499 inc VAT for the 16GB model, £579 inc VAT for the 32GB model and £659 inc VAT for the 64GB model.
There are other options, too, especially if you don't want to pay the full asking price up front. T-Mobile will be taking orders online and over the phone for the 16G 3G + Wi-Fi version of the iPad 2 from 5pm. It'll cost you £199 (£229 if you aren't already a T-Mobile customer) and you'll have to sign up to a two-year, £25 per month contract - £27 per month for non-T-Mobile customers.
Orange is offering a similar deal though only from 5pm at its store in London's Great Marlborough Street. You will also have the chance to win an iPad 2 by dressing up as your favourite iPad app, the Inquirer reports.
Vodafone has a choice of 16GB, 32GB and 64GB capacity models, it said, and will charge existing customers £199 up front for the 16GB device as well as £24.50 per month over two years. The 32GB and 64GB models cost £249 and £349 respectively. If you aren't a Vodafone customer, add £30 to the up front cost and expect to pay £27 per month.
