Apple iPad 2 camera rumours confirmed by suppliers

New version of tablet PC 'slimmer and lighter'

Rumours that the next version of the Apple iPad will feature front- and rear-facing cameras have been given more strength by a component supplier working the device.

According to Reuters, one un-named component supplier confirmed the new tablet PC would have two cameras, while another said the new version of the device would be "slimmer, lighter and have a better resolution display".

Genius Electronic Optical Co Ltd and Largan Precision Co, which both manufactuer camera modules, revealed they have signed new supply deals with Apple but could not confirm which products the modules would be used in.

According to SinoPac Securities, the iPad is expected to account for about 70 percent of the 60 million tablet PCs that will be shipped in 2011.

It is thought the next version of the Apple's tablet PC will be launched in the first half of 2011, which is in line with the company's tendency to reveal new versions of products featuring slight tweaks once a year.
