Samsung Galaxy Tab to cost £529

iPad rival available for pre-order

Samsung's rival to Apple's iPad, the Galaxy Tab, has been made available for pre-order from the Carphone Warehouse.

The 7in tablet PC, which is smaller than the iPad, and runs version 2.2 of Google's Android operating system, is priced at £529 SIM-free.

Alternatively users can purchase the tablet PC with Talk Mobile's monthly 1GB data subscription, which costs £10 per month on a 30-day rolling contract, for £499. The Carphone Warehouse says the device will be available from November 1.

The Galaxy Tab, which is powered by a 1GHz Samsung Hummingbird ARM-based processor, also benefits from 16GB of built-in memory, Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity and front- and back-facing cameras.
