Microsoft has announced that Office Web - a hosted version of the Microsoft Office suite - won't be accessible offline.

According to Microsoft senior vice president Chris Capossela, the browser-based versions of Excel, Word and PowerPoint won't have an offline mode to begin with.

Capossela told "In the first generation we are certainly looking at having them be connected," he said. "For offline usage of course the Office suite is incredibly powerful".

A technical preview of hosted Office will be available later this year, but Microsoft has not yet made available specifics on pricing or availability of the full suite.
