Dell launches automatic configuration software for workstations

Dell has launched its Precision Performance Optimiser (DPPO) software which automatically configures Dell Precision workstation settings to maximise performance for engineering, design and digital content creation applications.

The product is designed with preloaded and predefined performance profiles for popular applications, such as Autodesk Maya, PTC Creo, and Dassault SolidWorks. Once activated, the software adjusts settings once a supported application is launched; this includes shifts to CPU, memory, storage, graphics, and operating system graphics.

The application profiles are available in English for Autodesk Maya, PTC Creo, Dassault SolidWorks with Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, and Adobe Media Encoder among others. Dell promises French and German variations will be available for download "in the coming months" with other languages "available later this year."

Dell said it is able to work with customers to develop and provide recommended configurations for specific software and workflow requirements through the Dell Precision Workstation Advisor which then operate through DPPO.

The vendor also said the DPPO's system maintenance enables customers to learn the capabilities of their system via automated or manual updates for new drivers, BIOS, application software, firmware, and other vital components.

In addition, DPPO includes tools to analyse and model system utilization, such as the amount of free memory available, processor utilisation, thermal sensor data, battery state, and more. Reports can be scheduled to run and analyse system utilisation at any time, as well as during tasks.

DPPO is free and pre-installed on Dell Precision T1650, T3600, T5600, T7600, M4700 and M6700 workstations running Windows 7 (32 and 64-bit) and Windows 8 (64-bit).
