Gatwick Airport plans collaborative decision making platform

Work on project will start this year and the length of the contract will go up to 2017

Gatwick Airport is tendering for a "collaborative decision making" (CDM) platform to help run its operations.

Work on Gatwick's CDM Portal Solution project will start this year and the length of the contract will go up to 2017.

Gatwick said the contract may be suitable for an SME supplier to handle, but the value of the contract has been disclosed at this stage.

Gatwick said: "The CDM Portal Solution will standardise processes, increase situational awareness of live operations through better communications, and improve operating performance metrics. This forms part of Gatwick's ACDM55 initiative (Airport Collaborative Decision Making)."

The project includes the provision of a CDM Portal which will provide a "visualisation of the current situation on the airfield and stands", said Gatwick, through the use of a live map of the airport, with the location of aircraft and key ground service equipment, arrivals listings, departures listings, alerts, warnings, a KPI dashboard and reporting functionality.

There will also be a link up to network operations (Eurocontrol) to provide and receive accurate flight progress updates. In addition, there will be a 'turn tool', which shows the live status of the progression of an aircraft turnaround.

The main sources of data will include Gatwick's airport operational database, an advanced surface movement guidance and control system radar and GPS data. Internal data across Gatwick systems will be integrated via a Biztalk ESB interface.

External data from and to third party systems will be integrated via a Microsoft Azure ESB, which will enable secure data integration with all Gatwick Airport partners.

Last year Gatwick Airport unveiled details of a framework agreement that covered a vast variety of IT operational services, set to be worth up to £73 million.
