Thwaites taps into Microsoft Dynamics to run brewery business

JD Edwards and Great Plains ERP get the push

The Thwaites brewery company is replacing two existing ERP systems with a single integrated system from Microsoft.

Daniel Thwaites PLC is deploying a Microsoft Dynamics AX2012 system to help streamline its business processes.

Kevin Wood, finance director of Daniel Thwaites PLC, said: "Microsoft Dynamics AX2012 will enable us to make decisions based on up-to-date analysis, and will help us to streamline our current business processes, and provide the flexibility necessary for our future development.

"The system will be very user friendly and capable of further development by our own staff, which will provide a very cost effective solution."

The implementation of the new ERP system is part of a three year IT strategy set by the firm. The Microsoft Dynamics AX2012 with 160 enterprise users will replace a JD Edwards system within the beer company and pubs, and a Great Plains system running the hotel and inns businesses.

Great Plains Software was aquired by Microsoft in 2001, and JD Edwards was aquired by PeopleSoft in 2003, before it was acquired by Oracle in 2005.

The new ERP system is being deployed on Thwaites behalf by IT services provider Columbus UK.

Microsoft ERP rival SAP is paying $3.4 billion (£2.2 billion) cash for the acquisition (http://www.computerworlduk.com/news/applications/3322680/update2-sap-buys-successfactors-for-34-billion-boost-cloud-offering/) of SuccessFactors, a provider of cloud-based human capital management tools.
