Virgin Media has made a Spotify app for TiVo that allows users of its TV-on-demand service to listen to music through their TV available.
Under the deal between the ISP and music-streaming service Spotify, which was first announced in July this year, Virgin Media customers will be given Spotify Premium for free for six months. Spotify Premium allows users to stream as many tracks as they like from the service's 13 million strong catalogue that are also ad-free, but also ensures playlists and tracks can be accessed through the TiVo service. Furthermore, Virgin Mobile customers can access their playlists from their smartphone and even listen to them from their devices when there's no internet connection.
Once the six-month period is up, Virgin Media customers will then pay the standard £9.99 per month Spotify charge through their broadband bill. The offer is open to new and existing customers. Virgin Media said the Spotify app will automatically appear in the Apps and Games section of the TiVo service.
"The world of digital entertainment is continually changing and we're always looking at ways we can bring our customers the best entertainment for their whole families. Our goal to deliver a truly unique experience for our customers and we're really excited about bringing Spotify to our TiVo service as part of our ongoing initiatives to develop the platform further with new features, applications and content," said Cindy Rose, executive director of digital entertainment at Virgin Media said
Andreas Liffgarden, global head of telecom business development for Spotify, said the app ensured "TV is now totally interactive".
"Since we like our users to enjoy the world's best music under the best possible conditions, it made perfect sense for us to develop this great Spotify app for Virgin Media TiVo."
