Trend Micro launches Titanium 2012 security software

Program features social networking protection

Trend Micro has launched Titanium 2012, the latest version of it internet security software.

The software now benefits from Social Networking Security which will scan profiles on Facebook and Twitter to alert users to malicious links that have been shared on the sites as well as Fake AV Cleaner that detects and deletes Fake AntiVirus programs, also known as Scareware, and try to trick web users into paying for hoax software.

The security software uses a heuristic scanning method to detect threats in real-time. Once the infection is confirmed, a backup and restore method is used to remove the virus files and restore the good files. Furthermore, it also features a new scan method to detect malware encrypted by packer technology to evade detection. A behavioural monitoring engine is used to send a trigger when a packed file is finished unpacking during execution and then scans the unpacked file using file based signatures. This feature also benefits from a real time scan mode.

The software also includes improvements to the Parental Controls and Rootkit detection and removal functions.

"We understand that the internet plays an increasingly important role in consumers lives, for shopping, banking and communicating with their friends – not just at home, but on the move and from multiple devices," said Karen Hicks, Consumer Product Marketing Manager, EMEA at Trend Micro .

"Titanium 2012 enhances the protection our products provide, while our innovative cloud approach enables us to proactively defend our customers' online experience. This product sees new features to support everyday needs including social media and mobile protection, ensuring our customers' digital lifestyles are as safe and secure as possible."

Trend Micro Titanium is available in three versions; Antivirus which is priced at £29.95, the £39.95 Internet Security and Maximum Security which costs £59.95. Maximum security also benefits from two extra programs for devices running the Google Android operating system - Mobile Security Personal Edition and file and folder synchronisation and backup service rend Micro SafeSync.
