ITV makes catch-up TV service available to Android users

ITVPlayer for iPhone coming soon

ITV has followed in the footsteps of the BBC and made its catch-up TV service, ITVPlayer, available on smartphones running Google Android.

ITVPlayer for Android works on all devices running version 2.2 and above of the Google mobile platform and Adobe Air 2.6 or above. The app lets users stream as many shows that have already been broadcast on ITV1, ITV2, ITV3 and ITV4 as they like on their mobile device, but only when using a wireless connection. This means they won't be able to access TV shows when using their data connection.

Furthermore, the app, which is free to download although it does require mobile phone owners to register with their email address first, lets users search for TV shows by channel or title.

"Unfortunately we're unable to show our content to users outside the UK. People in some regions will be restricted to only viewing ITV2, ITV3 and ITV4 programmes," ITV said.

The broadcaster also said it is working on a version of ITVPlayer for the iPhone and iPad.
