Symantec makes beta versions of new security software available

Norton AntiVirus 2012 and Norton Internet Security 2012 benefit from improved scan times

Symantec has made beta versions of its new security software, Norton AntiVirus 2012 and Norton Internet Security 2012, available to web users.

Both programs feature Insight 3.0, the latest version of Norton's exclusive reputation-based security technology that analyses Symantec users to identify and block new malicious software. Furthermore, users of the new betas will also benefit from a new version of its download checker - Download Insight - that offers additional data about an app's safety before installing it.

The software also features improved installation and scan times and memory usage and an updated user interface that includes access to the Norton Cybercrime Index.

The new beta of Norton Internet Security also comes with a revamped Norton Identity Safe that offers the ability to store passwords in the cloud so they are accessible from any computer with Norton 360 or Norton Internet Security installed.

"As we've proven year after year, we are committed to arming consumers against cybercrime with the strongest protection possible, without slowing down their computers," said Jens Meggers, vice-president of engineering for Norton products. "For the Norton 2012 release, our aim is to continue to raise the bar for both protection and performance."

The software can be downloaded from Symantec's dedicated website.
