Norwegian borwser developer Opera Software will unveil the first public preview of its browser for tablets at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
A short YouTube clip shows the upcoming browser running on an Android-based tablet.
People who use Opera's existing browsers for PCs and smartphones will feel right at home. Clicking the Opera icon takes the user to a start screen with the company's Speed Dial feature, which gives quick access to favourite websites via nine tiles. The clip also shows how a page larger than the screen can be panned using one finger, or zoomed by pinching.
Opera isn't the only browser developer that a has set its sights on tablets. In December, Skyfire announced that its Flash-compatible browser had been approved for use on Apple's iPad, where it competes with the standard Safari browser.
All three browsers have a similar-looking touch-enabled user interface, including a menu bar on top of the screen with buttons for navigation and tab management, and a search field.
Tablets based on Android are expected to be one of the big features at this year's CES, with Android tablets expected from Lenovo, Motorola, NEC and Toshiba.
In December, a Google executive demoed a prototype Motorola tablet running Android Honeycomb, which will be out next year and has been developed to work better on tablets.
The International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) takes place in Las Vegas from January 6 to 9.
