Mobile web page views up 14 percent

34bn viewed by Opera Mini users in August

The number of web pages viewed from mobile phone has surged by 14 percent, says Opera.

According to the web browser developer's latest 'State of the mobile web' report, 33.9 billion pages were viewed using its Opera Mini mobile browser. As well as being 14 percent up on last month, its a 143 percent increase on the same period last year.

Nearly 10 percent more data, 489.4 million MB, was consumed by Opera Mini users in August. As data in Opera Mini is compressed by up to 90 percent, if this data were uncompressed more than 4.8 petabytes of data would have been viewed in August, the company said.

The number of web pages being viewed on mobile phones has surged

Opera also said 66.5 million mobile phone owners use its Opera Mini browser, that's 6.8 percent more than last year.

"Growth of the mobile web worldwide accelerated dramatically in August," said Jon von Tetzchner, co-founder, Opera Software.

"The mobile web was, and remains, a global phenomenon for people all over the world, on a variety of devices and screen sizes. It is this unparalleled reach of the mobile web that will bring tremendous social and economic change to people in many countries."
