Opera 10.60 launched in beta

Opera says new web browser is 50% faster

Opera has unveiled Opera 10.60, the lastest version of its web browser which the company claims is 50 percent faster at loading JavaScript than previous versions of the browser.

The new web browser, which is currently in beta, offers a geo-location function that tracks your position in a bid to offer the most accurate search results for your location.

Furthermore, users will benefit from support for HTML5 and Appache, as well as the open video format WebM, which is built into the browser and, according to Opera, makes viewing videos online even easier.

The new browser also offers search suggestions from partners including Wikipedia when you type keywords or phrases into Opera 10.60's search box. A number of functions, including Speed Dials, tab previews and the Opera Menu have also been given new graphics.

"Opera 10.60 beta is so fast, it will blow you away," said chief development officer, Christen Krogh.

"By combining raw speed with intuitive and easy-to-use features, Opera places you among the fastest internet users on the planet."

Opera 10.60 retains a number of popular features from previous versions of the web browser including Opera Turbo, which compresses the bandwidth of text and data files on websites by 80 percent, to ensure pages load faster, and Opera Unite that allows users to stream music or share files, photos and more, right from the browser.

Opera 10.60 can be downloaded from Opera's dedicated web page now.
