Microsoft launches Expedia version of Internet Explorer 8

Webslices offer quick access to holiday site

Microsoft has joined forces with travel website Expedia to launch a version of Internet Explorer 8 aimed at web users looking for holiday bargains online.

The Expedia version of the web browser features customised Webslices that allow web users to access content on the Expedia website without needing to open new tabs and search.

Last minute deals, weather reports and a currency converter are among the Webslices available.

Users will also benefit from a number of Accelerators, or predefined Favourites that enable one click access to the most relevant websites for holiday makers.

The two companies decided to join forces after research by Microsoft revealed that 65 percent of Brits believe the best holiday deals are found online. Furthermore, 22 percent of web users admitted they were struggling to find their way around the web.

"It makes perfect sense to combine Expedia's online travel expertise and ease of use with Internet Explorer 8. We hope the new customised browser will really help users enjoy a faster, easier and safer browsing experience than ever before," said Alex Gisbert, from Expedia.

Web users can also download the Expedia Holiday Countdown gadget so they know exactly how long they have to wait until they go on holiday.

"The new Expedia.co.uk version of Internet Explorer 8 has been designed to provide intrepid travellers with the information they need, with enhanced security and safety features that help protect travellers from the threats they face online," added Julia Owen, Internet Explorer product manager

The Internet Explorer 8 Expedia version can be downloaded for free form Microsoft's dedicated web page.
