Symantec offers free Norton Safe Web Lite

URL-checking software only available up to six months

Symantec has made free URL-checking software available. Norton Safe Web Lite checks links displayed in search results from Google, Yahoo, and Bing, and alerts the user to any that maybe unsafe to visit.

The software is a free version of the function that can be found in Norton Internet Security and Norton 360. Symantec said Norton Safe Web Lite will be available as a free beta for between three and six months.

The security vendor is also thought to be working a free web-based version of its parental controls software.

Norton Web Safe Lite can be downloaded from Norton's Beta Center.
