Recession helps Facebook to double its workforce

As Facebook grows, MySpace sheds jobs

Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg last week told Bloomberg that the online social-networking site will increase its staff numbers by as much as 50 percent this year.

In the August 20 interview, Zuckerberg said the recession was helping Facebook. "No one else has been hiring," said Zuckerberg. "It's been a great environment for us because the economy has helped out."

The move comes just months after social network rival MySpace announced that it was slashing two-thirds of its workforce.
