Apple Snow Leopard launching next week

Official: Mac OS X 10.6 shipping early

Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, Apple's next operating system, will ship earlier than expected on Friday 28 August 2009.

By using Google's advanced search function you can find the following page on Apple's UK online store.

"Mac OS X Snow Leopard Up-To-Date - If you purchased a qualifying Mac or Xserve on or after June 8, 2009, that does not include Mac OS X Snow Leopard, you can upgrade to Mac OS X Snow Leopard. £7.95 Ships: By August 28th."

The Mac OS X Snow Leopard Up-to-Date Programme scheme, which started on 8 June 2009 runs until 26 December 2009 and offers customers the option to upgrade to Snow Leopard at a discounted price.

Information on the scheme on the Apple website still states: "Expected Product Availability: September 2009."

Most observers including retailers such as Amazon have been expecting a September date: "Official release date has not been announced by Apple, though they have indicated this product will be released sometime in September," Amazon's listing notes.

Amazon UK is currently showing "Sign up to be notified when this item becomes available" still without a release date or price.

However, on Wednesday, a Snow Leopard Mac Box Set did briefly appear online before being removed by Apple.

Snow Leopard promises to refine, further simplify and speed up the Mac OS X experience.
