Windows Vista SP2 available next week

Microsoft releases service pack to testers

Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2) is all but ready for release, after Microsoft posted the latest version of the free download to its TechNet and MSDN subscriber-only services.

The news follows last week's reports that Microsoft has completed work on Vista SP2. It's likely to become available to the public next week, although won't downloaded onto PCs via Automatic Updates until later this year.

"Next week, Microsoft will make SP2 RC available to the public via TechNet," a company spokeswoman told Computerworld US.

Last week, Malaysian website TechARP.com claimed Microsoft had scheduled Vista SP2's final release for May. Previously, Microsoft had issued just one public version of Vista SP2, a beta it posted in early December 2008.
